Heard about SpatioTemporal Asset Catalogs (STAC) and want to learn more? Join us at The Climate Corporation’s San Francisco office at 5:30 pm on June 4th for an evening of learning, sharing, and drinks.
Next week is the 4th STAC Sprint, hosted and sponsored by Planet, with additional sponsorship support from Astraea, CosmiQ Works, and Azavea. Members from those organizations join a number of other diverse collaborators to spend three days working together. People will be standing up more SpatioTemporal Asset Catalogs, working on software in support of STAC, and enhancing the core specification and extensions.
In conversations with people working at Climate Corp and NGA, we decided that it’d be nice to hold an event for everyone who is interested in STAC but not ready to devote days of their life to meeting and working on it. Climate Corp was able to come through, hosting us in their space with drinks and some light food. There will be a few presentations about STAC from different members of the community, giving an overview of what it is and talking through some of the specific implementations people are building. There will also be time to catch up with others in the San Francisco geospatial community and to chat with the STAC core team who is in from out of town. It should be a great opportunity to learn more about STAC, and we welcome anyone interested in open geospatial standards, even if this blog post is the first time you’ve heard of STAC. Feel free to forward along to anyone who might be interested.

And just one final note — we are just about filled up for the 4th sprint, with around 20 people who are coming in-person. And if you’re not able to make it to San Francisco next week but are excited to devote a few days to work on STAC projects with others, there is ‘virtual participation’ option. We will try to stream a handful of the sessions, and then will also organize online collaboration spaces (gitter, github, board.net, etc) for particular topics. And we’ll have experts on hand to help you convert your own data to STAC, or to volunteer on any open data projects. We’ve got about 15 people signed up so far for the virtual option. Just use the same form in the previous paragraph and mark that you’d like to participate virtually.
